I only check it once a week anyway, so I think I could manage this challenge. But go without my cell phone? Never!
I love Facebook! I enjoy to see what going on with my friends and family in the distance and Facebook offer all of this, but before we did not have anything like this and we survived anyway. We communicated with family and friends using other means, phone, mail or during family reunions. Technology is a great advantage, but there are many other things people can do.

You can't curl up with a CD player or iPod the way you can with a real book.
If I'm driving long distances, audiobooks are great. Otherwise, I prefer to read.
I prefer reading a book but I love to listen to audiobooks on long car trips.
How about a good Kindle?
An audio book is good if the narrator is good. The person has to have a nice reading voice. I've listened to some audio books where the narrator is an actor who does different voices for different characters. This is usually much better than when they have the author read the book.

Homer Price - it was quirky, fun, and included wonderful, clean drawings by the author himself, Robert McCloskey, who died only a few years ago, in '03. He was also the author/illustrator of Make Way for Ducklings which I had "read" perhaps 5-6 years before reading Homer Price. That is, Captain Kangaroo read it a number of times on his show when I was 3 or 4 or so. (He also read Stone Soup by Marcia Brown, and something about a steam shovel, and another about a tugboat if I remember). Why not?
In a nice way.
I have never "friended" a student. They have always "friended" me first.
No, Facebook breeds a less formal relationship than must be maintained, however, I am a huge supporter of e-mails from teachers to students / parents.
I would no more tolerate a Facebook relationship than I would finding a series of text messages between a teacher and a student.
Interesting question. At first I said yes, because I LOVE my "old" students. Then I realized I taught them years ago. I consider them friends, but if I were teaching them now I'm not so sure I'd want them knowing EVERYTHING. There has to be boundaries, distance.
It might add something to the classroom experience, outside of the classroom
Teachers are people too.
I am a very private person and don't like Facebook either.
Yes it's okay. We are all humans regardless of our position within our society. We shall be able to get along peacefully. Even though that is not always the case.
